Intro:

Introducing Free Lung, the musical trio that's a wild dance party for all ages! They take rock, folk, and pop, throw them in a blender, and serve up a groovy explosion that'll have you involuntarily tapping your toes and shaking your hips in no time.

"Let our lungs sing what's in our hearts

Free expression, free love, free thought"

This is Free Lung

With guitars, bass, drums, and vocals as their main ingredients, these multi-talented musicians sprinkle in piano, mandolin, and cello to create a mouth-watering feast of sound while their lyrics dive deep into love, life, and everything in between, hitting you right in the feels with their intimate and relatable voice. Drawing inspiration from an extensive span of musical influences including Phil Collins, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, and Franz Ferdinand, this band energizes the dance floor with their funky originals.

Origin:

Dustin McGifford has been writing songs for over 20 years starting around the age of 10 and building quite a large catalog of unreleased music. Gathering the skills of long time friends Brian McLennon, and Dan Oig, Free Lung was formed in the spring of 2022 and served as a performance vessel for that unreleased material.

Career Highlights:

Their debut EP Pointless Destination, released in June of 2022, was accompanied by an eagerly awaited show at the Mary Irwin Theatre in Kelowna, B.C. Building and managing his own recording studio, lead singer and songwriter Dustin McGifford recorded and mixed the first EP, with most instruments being played by Dustin himself. The band hosted several music students from Morals Music Studio in Kelowna to open for them as they officially released their first EP. The single off the EP “Vantablack” showcases a visceral and diagnostic analysis of the darkest substance created by man as a double entendre to the desperations of a scorned lover.

This project is bolstered by musicians that are no strangers to the industry and have a wealth of knowledge and experience. Past projects have spanned musical theatre pit bands, orchestrating student concerts to fundraise for the children’s hospital, touring Western Canada, and many things in between. “As a band we are hungry to engage with our local and global community and excitedly seek out next opportunities.”

In May 2023, the second EP Antidote was released. The single “Capital Man” describes the dangers of capitalism and the desire to break free and escape and received streaming growth throughout North America, notably in Los Angeles, Dallas and Vancouver.

In June 2023, The band won the Westside Daze hosted Battle of the Bands in West Kelowna. Scoring studio time, some cash, and a spot to next years festival the band has no plans on slowing down. With a steady stream of new material, with their goal to continue releasing music, and expand their following through social media and organic grass roots marketing, focusing locally then expanding to larger metropolitan areas.
